Take Stock in Children Miami program scholars, Teresa Charles and Yeyenne Telisme, recently said Yes to the Prom Dress,
an initiative sponsored by Discovery Communications and hosted by LifeWorks & Inclusion and TLC. Say Yes to the Prom Dress
focuses on identifying and celebrating girls in need by helping to build courage, confidence, and improve self-image. Teresa and Yeyenne, both graduating seniors from Miami Edison Senior High School, were part of a group of 55 students from two local high schools in Miami that were treated to a day of shopping and head-to-toe pampering to get them ready for their prom night. The students were paired with a Discovery Communications employee who served as a prom-consultant, personal shopper, and style assistant throughout the day.The girls later modeled the designer dress of their dreams with a celebratory red carpet walk among their peers at the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables.
College bound this fall, both Teresa and Yeyenne said the experience is a building block for them to feel empowered to begin their next journey into postsecondary education. Teresa is planning to study Business Administration at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University. Yeyenne has dreams to become a psychologist and will attend the University of Florida this fall. Yeyenne commented on the Say Yes to the Prom Dress
event, "Say Yes to the Prom Dress has taught me that there is a village and community out there that wants you to succeed. Thanks to my involvement with Take Stock in Children, I have been able to have these wonderful experiences and opportunities."
The episode featuring Take Stock in Children students will air on May 20, 2016 at 9pm EST on TLC.
