Our Principles and Promises
The mission of Take Stock in Children is to passionately promote personal growth, self-responsibility, and academic success for deserving low-income children by providing a unique set of resources including mentors, scholarships, long-term support, student advocacy, and a guaranteed educational opportunity. We believe that a willing child can succeed with the help of passionate and caring people, encouragement and challenge, hard work, and accountability. Our purpose is to prepare and develop confidence, competence, pride, and a sense of belonging, and hope in each student. Achieving this goal will result in an improved quality of life for all stockholders.We evaluate the success of Take Stock in Children by rigorously measuring our students' academic performance and outcomes relative to their peers. We achieve success one child at a time by each of us doing our part; keeping our promises to all our stakeholders. Eight core principles guide how Take Stock in Children works with each of our stakeholders- Students, Parents, Mentors, Investors and Management and Staff:
- Self- Responsibility is being accountable for your actions, following through on your commitments, and overcoming your challenges.
- Understanding is actively listening to people without requiring that their point of view agree with yours, and being reasonable and open.
- Caring is doing for others simply because it contributes to their well- being.
- Respect is showing concern for the rights, values, and worth of all people.
- Passion is being deeply involved and committed to success for long term.
- Excellence is doing the right things well and pushing for the next level of achievement.
- Fun is being good to be with, quick to smile, and willing to celebrate the success of others.
- Integrity is saying what you mean, doing what you say, and being honest in all your interactions with others.
These eight principles guide our actions and are reflected in how we follow through on the promises we make to one another.
Keeping our promises is not easy, but it is the most effective way we can make a difference in our communities, one child at a time.
