Anthony Denapoli pays attention to the details. He is described by his students and the program’s mentor coordinator as a good listener. Anthony always remembers what is going on with his student from the previous session and asks about tests and challenges they faced or are facing.
With five mentees at five different high schools in Pinellas, he travels a lot of miles to makes sure he keep up his commitment to meet with his mentor. He takes his role very seriously. He understands the lives he is changing by being involved and engaged.
But, Anthony also makes sure his student put in the effort needed to be college ready and college bound. He holds them accountable for grades, attendance and behavior, and encourages them to “pull up their boot straps” when faced with a challenge in our outside the classroom. His encouragement keeps his students motivated and trying their best. As his mentee Eric Johnson said about Anthony, “His encouragement helps me get good grades and try harder at school.”
