A Take Stock in Children scholar, Alexis Smith is from Sarasota County and graduated from Pine View School and was enrolled at the State College of Florida. She earned a 4.83 GPA and was a member of the National Honor Society. Additionally, she was a member of National Hispanic Honor Society, and Mu Alpha Theta in high school. She attended the University of Florida and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Family, Youth, and Community Sciences. She is an alum of Sigma Alpha Professional Sorority. In that past year she has married, and her husband and she welcomed their first daughter, Dawsyn Elena Barnes, in May of 2020. Alexis is currently working at a Title I middle school in Lake County and pursuing her professional teaching license to teach early childhood education.
