Take Stock in Children is proud to recognize Dr. Miller, a graduate from our Escambia County program, as the 2026 Alumni of the Year. His journey reflects the heart of the Take Stock mission, transforming opportunity into impact and giving back to the program that helped shape his path.
As a former Take Stock student, Dr. Miller understands the power of mentorship and support firsthand. Growing up with very few means, Dr. Miller didn’t always know if college was a realistic option. Even with the guidance of his mentors, he faced a moment of deep uncertainty when unexpected news threatened his ability to enroll in the college he had applied for. It was Take Stock in Children that intervened, providing a direct line to the dean at the University of West Florida and setting up a crucial entrance interview. This pivotal support allowed him to stay focused on his goals and laid the foundation for his eventual success.
Dr. Miller earned his Bachelor of Science in 2009 with a minor in Mathematics from the University of West Florida and went on to complete his Ph.D. in Nuclear Physics from Florida State University in 2013, a testament to his dedication, perseverance, and academic excellence.
Today, he balances a demanding professional career at the largest credit union in the nation with continued service to Take Stock in Children as an active mentor and financial supporter. His commitment to the power of opportunity is also reflected in his personal life; as a father to two adopted children, he is passing on a legacy of stability and support, ensuring they have the same foundation for success that he once received.
