Take Stock in Children of Clay County recently had the opportunity to recognize an extraordinary individual whose dedication to students and mentorship has spanned more than two decades. During a special celebration, we proudly honored Mrs. Janice Tucker as our 2026 Mentor of the Year, recognizing her 25 years of unwavering service, leadership, and commitment to the success of our students.
Mrs. Tucker’s journey with Take Stock in Children is rooted in service, leadership, and a deep belief in the power of opportunity. As a highly respected administrator within the Clay County school district, she has spent her career advocating for students both professionally and personally. Her decision to serve as a mentor grew from a desire to walk alongside students as they navigate academic challenges, personal growth, and future goals.
In her Mentor of the Year nomination, Take Stock in Children of Clay County shared that Mrs. Tucker felt that mentoring allows her to build meaningful relationships that extend far beyond academics. She emphasized the importance of being a consistent presence, someone students can rely on for encouragement, accountability, and support during pivotal moments in their lives. For her, mentorship is about listening, showing up, and helping students see the possibilities ahead of them.
In addition to her role as a mentor, Mrs. Tucker has also been a longstanding financial supporter of Take Stock in Children, demonstrating her belief in the mission not only through her time and guidance, but through tangible investment in student success. Over the past 25 years, Mrs. Tucker has mentored numerous students, offering guidance that continues well beyond high school. She remains connected with many former mentees, celebrating their graduations, career milestones, marriages, babies, and personal achievements. Her commitment reflects her belief that mentorship does not end at graduation, it evolves as students continue their journey.

As we celebrate Mrs. Janice Tucker as our 2026 Mentor of the Year, we also celebrate the students whose paths have been shaped by her guidance, advocacy, and belief in their potential, including Tia Paul, the Executive Director of the Education Foundation of Alachua County that operates the Take Stock in Children program in Alachua County. Her story is a powerful reminder of the lasting impact one mentor can make and why mentorship remains at the heart of the Take Stock in Children mission.
