Keiya Johnson: Shaping the Future of STEM and Nuclear Engineering

We are thrilled to celebrate Keiya Johnson, one of our seven fellows in the Take Stock Leaders 4 Life program’s 2025 cohort. Representing the Take Stock in Children of Broward County program, Keiya’s exceptional academic achievements and dedication to empowering others exemplify the qualities of a true leader.

Academic Excellence and Leadership

Keiya’s impressive 4.0 GPA reflects an unwavering commitment to academic excellence. As the Project Manager of the National Honor Society, Keiya went above and beyond by helping over 150 students discover a love for STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). This included raising over $11,000 in funding for fun, STEM-focused field trips that provided peers with educational experiences and valuable resources.

Empowering Others Through Education

Keiya’s passion for education extends far beyond the classroom. Keiya launched the social media account Keiyacademics to provide students with practical guidance on college essay writing, scholarship applications, and other essential academic resources.

Pursuing a Career in Nuclear Engineering

Keiya’s journey into the world of physics began in junior year. This experience and family stories from Japan sparked a deep interest in nuclear energy and science. Through pursuing a career in nuclear engineering, Keiya aspires to shift the narrative surrounding atomic energy from fear to hope and innovation, emphasizing its potential as a clean, sustainable source of power.

A Well-Rounded Leader

In addition to academic pursuits, Keiya is a well-rounded individual with a wide array of interests and experiences. From organizing the Plywood Regatta to serving as an international teachers’ assistant in Japan and helping over 600 students develop their English skills, Keiya’s diverse extracurricular activities have cultivated a global perspective and versatile leadership skills.

“I didn’t become inspired to be a leader by one specific person or event; it was the culmination of important experiences that have allowed me to grow into the leader I am today. Leadership does not appear from one event; rather, it grows from our experiences. I believe that leadership encompasses the qualities we pick up from our surroundings and the ability to implement it to help others around you.” -Keiya Johnson, L4L Fellow, Class of 2025
