Take Stock in Children of Palm Beach County mentors the Solis twins

Take Stock Palm Beach honors the Solis twins for their double impact of mentorship

Shannon and Sharmagne Solis, the dynamic duo behind the Take Stock in Children of Palm Beach County program at Village Academy, have profoundly impacted their students, school, and the community. The sisters understand the challenges many of their students face. They’ve become a crucial bridge between students, their families, and educational opportunities, often making college feel accessible for the first time.

Introduced to the Take Stock program by a former colleague, the Solis sisters quickly took on the responsibility of mentoring and helping students navigate academic and personal challenges. Sharmagne even became the school coordinator for the program, further extending their influence. Over their 11 years of serving, each sister has mentored multiple students, often working together to ensure their mentees receive the support they need to succeed.

One of their success stories is Dashna Corneille, who reflects on the Solis sisters’ profound impact: “Reflecting on my journey, it is impossible not to be overwhelmed by gratitude for the Solis twins’ profound impact on my life. From the moment I met the Solis Sisters in 4th grade, they provided me with unparalleled academic opportunities that laid the foundation for my future successes. Their unwavering support started with SAT and ACT tutoring, which enabled me to secure a full Bright Futures Scholarship by my junior year. This crucial achievement gave me the confidence to pursue excellence in all areas.

This, and other collective efforts the alum’s mentors provided, helped Dashna graduate as valedictorian and earn a full scholarship to the University of Florida. Their mentorship did not stop at high school.

“Throughout college, they continued to guide me with wisdom and encouragement,” Dashna continued. “With their help, I seized opportunities to study abroad and made strategic decisions that allowed me to graduate debt-free—an extraordinary achievement as a first-generation college student and the youngest of seven children. Today, I am proud to say I reside in New York, working for my dream company, L’Oréal. None of this would have been possible without the Solis twins’ unwavering support, guidance, and kindness. Their investment in my education and growth has shaped me into who I am today. For this, I am forever grateful.”

“Their belief in my potential pushed me through challenges and inspired me to dream bigger.”

The Solis sisters’ impact goes beyond individual success stories—they have made a significant difference in their local Take Stock program and the broader community. They understand that immigrant families may be hesitant about the educational system, so they spend countless hours helping parents understand the process, guiding them through paperwork, and encouraging them to stay involved. Their advocacy ensures that students get the resources they need, both inside and outside the classroom.

Elson Sixeus, an 8th grader at Village Academy, shared, “I think the Solis sisters should definitely be recognized as Mentors of the Year because of how much they care about their students, including me. We meet every week, and they help me with my schoolwork and even other things going on in my life. I feel like I can trust them with anything. Ms. Solis was my 6th-grade ELA and AVID teacher at Village Academy, so it is easy to go to her anytime I need help. They were the ones who told me about Take Stock and helped me with things like my science fair project and volunteering at STEM Night. They really care about us and want us to do well, and they’re always there to support us. With their kindness and encouragement, I feel I can reach my goals and succeed.”

The sisters go above and beyond to support their students. They stay after school to provide tutoring, check in with mentees, and offer specialized SAT and ACT prep in subjects like math, English, and science. Their dedication helps students stay on track academically, even when juggling jobs or other commitments. They are mentors and role models—believing in their students’ potential and teaching them how education and hard work open doors for their futures.
