Leaders 4 Life: Mithila “Mia” Paul: Future Occupational Therapist Blending STEM, Art, and Compassion

Mithila “Mia” Paul’s story begins with a foundation built by her parents, who immigrated to the United States from Bangladesh. They instilled in her a deep love for learning—but even more importantly, a love for humankind.

“My parents honed in the importance of kindness to others in a world surrounded by unkind people,” Mia reflects. “Each step I take in my educational journey is also a step for my parents.” Fluent in Bengali, Mia is passionate about using her voice and future skills to connect with communities in Bangladesh and other underserved regions with limited access to healthcare.

A graduating senior from Crescent City Jr.-Sr. High School in Putnam County, Mia exemplifies academic and leadership excellence. She maintains a 3.99 GPA as a Take Stock in Children student in the Putnam County program operated by Goodwill Industries of North Florida. She is also a Cambridge student, active in the National Honor Society and the Superintendent’s Student Council, and serves as her school’s Chief Science Officer.

Through the Chief Science Officers program, Mia develops her leadership skills while inspiring younger students with “STEMonstrations”—hands-on science activities held at local elementary schools to introduce kids to STEM fields in engaging and memorable ways.

Mia’s love for people and her creative spirit have led her to pursue a career in occupational therapy. She will attend the University of Florida to earn her Bachelor of Science degree in pre-occupational therapy and eventually achieve a Doctorate in Occupational Therapy (OTD).

“It is a profession that embodies my passion for humanity and commitment to creating meaningful connections within diverse communities,” she shares.

The 2025 Leaders 4 Life fellow envisions a future where she can travel and serve as an OTD across the U.S. and internationally—especially in Bangladesh, where her heritage lies.

In addition to her academic and service achievements, Mia works approximately 22 hours a week at Winn-Dixie, where she thrives on engaging with customers and connecting with people from all walks of life. Her creativity also shines through her love of art, which she views as both a personal passion and a professional tool.

“I wish to help individuals heal and tell stories through art because I recognize the therapeutic potential of self-expression,” Mia says. “By promoting psychological well-being, patients with ailments and disabilities can relearn the ability to live a purposeful and healthy life. Every experience, every person, adds depth to the canvas of identity. I truly see myself as a painting composed of those who have shaped my life.”

Mithila “Mia” Paul is an inspiring example of leadership, compassion, and purpose—and we can’t wait to see the impact she will make in the world.
