At Take Stock in Children, we are proud to see students grow in their academic pursuits and as responsible, determined individuals. One such student is Sebastian Diaz Cuevas, who exemplifies resilience, commitment to self-improvement, and dedication to one’s family.
Sebastian, a high school freshman in Broward County, is determined to continue his academic journey and maintain a positive outlook despite life’s challenges. He serves as a role model for his peers and takes on significant responsibilities at home, proving his ability to balance school and family commitments. His drive and motivation reflect his strong character and ambition.
Through the Take Stock in Children of Broward County program, Sebastian has benefitted from valuable mentorship that has inspired the student to set even bigger goals for the future. This support has helped Sebastian realize his potential and the importance of education in achieving his dreams.
Through a grant from the Florida Department of Children and Families, Take Stock’s Mentorship Program for At-Risk Male Students (MPARMS) initiative has been crucial in expanding the opportunities available to students like Sebastian. This grant funding has enabled Take Stock Broward to increase enrollment among low-income, at-risk male students.
Amanda Frey, Executive Director of Take Stock in Children of Broward County, shares how MPARMS funding has been a key factor in boosting enrollment:
“Take Stock’s MPARMS grant funding has been the missing puzzle piece in increasing the enrollment of at-risk male students in our program. The additional funds have allowed us to leverage resources and partnerships in the community to identify and serve more young males in need of our services.”
Sebastian’s story reflects the transformative power of mentorship and education. With the support of Take Stock in Children state office through this DCF grant, traditionally underserved male students are determined to earn a degree and pursue a successful career. Sebastian’s ultimate goal is to give back to his family for all they have done for him.
As Sebastian puts it,
“My goal is to make it to a professional career and be successful, so I can pay my family back with any success I make because they have done so much for me. Making it as a professional is an aspiration of mine so I can appreciate my family as they have appreciated me. I want to have a successful career and enjoy it because I don’t want to be successful while not enjoying it.”
Sebastian’s reflection highlights a deep appreciation for family and his commitment to achieving success and finding fulfillment in the process. The student’s approach to career and life balance is a valuable lesson in understanding that success is not just about achievements but about enjoying the journey.
